I am trying to decide on what type of dog I want to adopt. I know I want a small dog that does not shed a lot. I imagine this will lead me to some type of poodle mix. The only thing I am concerned with is any potential health risks. If anyone knows anything about different non-shedding breeds, please respond. Thanks.

Well each breed comes with their own problems. Though one thing most small dogs go thru as they age is luxating patella's Not always but often. Poodles tend to have seizures, if nt bred well. Maltese can have liver shunts, heart problems (PDI) I think its called. This is why its wise to check out the breeders to make sure they have their parent dogs health tested. but having a dog that does not shed is so worth the whole grooming issues you go thru with these little ones(or big standard Poos)

I have 2 yorkies and they do not shed but if you let their hair grow you have to brush them everyday. But they also can have their health issues they tend to get ear infections (i put stuff in there ears once a week to prevent) they like all dogs are prone to have gum problems (i brush their teeth once a week) some can have knee and joint problems. Mine are both 1 year old and i love them to death it's alot of work like having another baby (twins in my case) but it is worth it they are so adorable i love them. their personalitis are wonderful.

Try a Maltipoo. A Maltese Poodle mix. They are great pets.
