usually how long does the grooming take?
she is getting bathed and shaved and i am just trying to figure out about how long it should take. i am assuming about an hour.
i ask because for my birthday my boyfriend surprised me by taking bella to be groomed (the only other time she has been professionally groomed), he took her to petsmart and he told me it took 3 hours. i think that's a long time. should i be expecting that for fridays grooming?

3 hours is a little long to me ,but it is really according to the groomer ,what type cut and how many they have in front of her and so on .But if you feel uneasy about it ,shop around in there ,just pricing and looking and keep a check on her if possible .

for this grooming she has an appointment.. he told me when he went to petsmart with her that it took 3 hours from the time they started her bath until she was finished.. but she came out giving the groomer kisses, so i feel confident they were being nice to her..
anyway this time, she has an appointment and for a bath and a shave.. the three hour time she was getting a puppy cut (scissors)..

Call a few groomers and ask about time it takes .But if she did fine with them the first time ,she may well do great this time too .Only time can tell .Let us know how it turns out though ...I will tell you this ..my husband can shave a dog in about 45 minutes(one that needs it bad too like some of the rescues take a little longer ) but again it is how still she is for them too and a bath ,trim nails and clean out ears only takes about 30 minutes here .

Hello i also take or have taken my babies to petsmart for grooming and it has taken up to 4 hours and it kills me to think my babies are in a cage most of that time. They are like an assembly line one gives a bath then one cuts nails one blow dry's and brushes i'm going to talk to a different groomer to see how long it will take and how much. Jasmine doesnt' like to be brushed at all so i have to have her shaved i hope it dosnt take 4 hours

I think that is way too long ,Linda says her groomer grooms both hers and another she takes in an hour to two and has them ready for her to pick up .Although ,she don't stay away that long at a time ,she says it is done really fast and the girls always look good .

well i dropped bella off for her 10am appt. the lady told me to come back to pick her up around 3:30-4pm.. i told her that i had to be at work at 3pm and had to pick her up by 2pm (which is true).. but 6 hours to groom her! this is a little shop, and they had about 12 dogs and 3 groomers in there.
i wish i had known this was going to be an all day event.. i would have continued to look around to find another place to take her.. maybe i'll check out one of those mobile groomers that comes to the home.. or maybe i will go to the groomers at my vets

6 hours ...Jeez ....I think I would be looking around too .An appointment should be an appointment ,but then I am not a groomer .

Well If I do a bath, blow dry and then clip it can take me about three to four hours. With a little rest inbetween. Also dremeling nails. It really does take long. Id o go faster with my new clipper set, but it takes time. My sisters poodle first day out of the shelter needed a complete shave down and with other dogs there it took over 4 hours. Dogs don't always co-operate and you have to go gentley. You have to earn their trust. If you groomed a dog before then you understand. If all you so is bath and snip a couple of hairs one the face and rear then maybe one hour tops. Thats without a blow dry. They look best with a blow dry, especially with poodles all their hair has to be straight to clip correctly.

You are so right i am not a groomer .I have cut Sammy andthe rest of mine with sissors and that can take forever if they are not still .But usually they are really good .
It takes that long ? I know if oe is not behaving it can get long ,ButI did not think that long .That is what I get for thinking though .
My husband does that part and I never watch .Most of the time I am busy with other stuff .He did tell me a shavedown only took about 45 minutes to an hour .Then I bath ,cut nails and get the littel things like about the face which for me does not take but about 30 minutes or so .
I don't use a dryer . Should I ? Does it help to fluff them out better .Usually I towel dry and then they play until brush time .With a small puppy I use warm towels ad hold until dry to keep warm .

well i picked bella up at 2pm. so she was there for four hours.. i spoke to a couple of people today who get their dogs professionally groomed and they all said that it's the norm to drop them off early morning and pick them up in the afternoon..
i guess bella and i just have such a routine down that it takes us almost no time.
i usually clip her nails, brush her out, do a scissor cut, bathe and then blow dry and it all takes about an hour at the most.. she's a good girl for me, the only thing that slows us down is all the kisses she insists on giving me during the bath and blow dry.. but i do see how it would take longer for someone that she doesn't know..
the only thing i feel bad about is that she and i can't do our usual bath bonding this weekend (i wouldn't want to bathe her again so soon).. she loves the bath so much that she tries to jump into the shower with me daily

I am glad that it turned out well for her and you .Did you find out about tipping ? Are we suppose to or not ? I ask Linda and she says her groomer is a one owner shop ,so she does not tip extra ..

tsk tsk
you really shouldnt take your pouch to a "pet store" for a grooming. places like Petsmart often support puppy mills -this is where they get most of thier dogs and cats-
if you care about the well being of those cute 4-legged fuzzy friend we call dogs then call up a "private" grooming service in the telephone directory under dog grooming. this usualy take as long or a little longer. But at least the Money isnt going to greedy little people who dont REALLY care about well being of animals.

jack (my malti-poo) was just groomed tuesday. He was picked up at 9am and brought back home by 11:00. He was bathed, blown dry, toe nails clipped and ears cleaned. The whole thing cost 55.00 including 10.00 tip split between driver and groomer. He looked super and was happy and alert when he returned. Non-english speaking folks, but I practiced my Spanish and they practiced their English and we communicated just fine.

Goofie: We have petssmart stores out here and all they have pet wise is mice, turtles, birds rats and fish. None of them sell puppies. They have rescue groups come in on the weekends.
Deb: They charged you $55 dollars and they did not even clip your dogs hair? Thats crazy. If all your dog got was a bath nails and ears cleaned thats highway robbery. It should have included coat cutting too. Of course what your dog had done only takes a short amount of time.
Maltipoo: I would sit them under a blowdrier they will dry faster than in a towel. Plus it is what their furture owners may likey be doing. So it will get them used to it. They tend to not like it at first, but after sitting around wet they realize the warm air and the brushing is heaven. It does fluff out the hair well and then you clip the hair and it looks much more even.

Puttin:
still most if not all of the animals were raised in un humane conditions and were only sold to make a $Profit$ not to better the species or breed. However ever since Petland was exposed in Canada A LOT of Pet stores have started programs with local shelters.

Goofy; I know all about byb's, puppy brokers and then some. Just saying around here most pet store do not carry puppies. One popped up and I asked suspicously where this tiny chi came from. She said a private party. That could mean a whole lot of things. I am dead set against it.
Bellasmommy: For a malti mix the way the hair lays it is different from a poodle. If you don't blow then clip really carefully and possible do scizzoring to catch those darned hairs that slipped thru the clipper, it just has a choppy appearance to the coat. Sometimes I wish she had the laydown type of hair.

I know this is a bit late on the how long does it take....well on my mothers pyranese and border collie, we drop off at 7:30 am and pick up is at 4pm...

I know they give Molly (the border) a mild tranq pill. She tends to get antsy and nip when frighted. It really takes them a while with the dogs. They are large and take FOREVER to dry.

My dogs however, Smokey and Charllotte (heelers) only take about 3 hrs. From dip, and wash to brush and dry.

It really does take time to do it right. If they rushed you would see it. Clippers sometimes get choked with hair and need to be cleaned. Sometimes if you don't have the newer versions of clipper they get very hot and need to cool off or they will need to use coolant on them. It is a bunch of tiny things that take up the time. Like my poodles feet. I could do it fast but it would be a shoddy job. If I take more time it looks pretty darned good. Poodle feet need the shaved look and getting around each nail without nicking her and making her bleed is something you don't rush at.
Also, before any bath you need to give the dog a good brushing to help get any loose hair off and doing this with a large dog like a pyranese takes time. My other dog I believe is part B-collie, so he sheds like you would not believe. For him his hair needs to be raked over and over to get the undercoat out. Different dogs have different issues.
