Hi everyone. I've posted this on other boards too because I am desperate. Please help! I need some advice! And who better to ask than fellow
dog owners?

My family room smells like pee!! Ugh! One of my little ones still
has accidents (but she's definitely getting better). Thankfully, we
have berber carpet so it doesn't look too stained, but it smells.
We were planning on having it professionally cleaned once we got
both our babies totally trained, but now I'm having second
thoughts. Should I just go ahead and buy a carpet cleaner? It
would almost certainly be more feasible, but it would have to be a
good one that works well. We would probably pay just as much for
one professional cleaning (of the carpets in the entire house) as we
would for the machine that I could use again.

When I read the reviews on Consumer Reports, stain removal seems to
be the biggest pitfall with (non-professional) cleaners, but like I
said, staining isn't a big issue.

Has anyone here had this same problem? Do any of you have a carpet
cleaner that has worked wonderfully in cleaning up your baby's
messes? I would appreciate any and all advice.

P.S. Don't ever use one of those black light urine-finders in your
home! Sometimes it's better not to know! Ugh -- disgusting.

I bought the Bissel Proheat, It cost about $200.00 but I had to get it. Teddy took so long to house train, You never smell anything when you walk in my house. I ask all the time just to be sure. There were a few that were a tiny bit more but this one works just fine.

I bought the Big Green Clean Machine a few years back and love it. It is made by Bissell and I got it at their factory store. I think I paid around $200 for it. It works very well. Also for pet odors you may want to try Nature's Miracle. It is an enzyme cleaner for pet odors and can even be used in the carpet cleaning machine. I think when you have pets a carpet machine is a must!!

I've got to try that Nature's Miracle, a few people on Auspet have mentioned that. So far I use Petzyme, you can get that at Petsmart or Pet Odor and Stain Remover by Capture, Lowes or Home Depot. Both work pretty good too, however, Petzyme is a little more expensive and you don't get as much as the Pet Odor and Stain remover.

The hubby and I just went to walmart the other day and we bought a Dirt Devil feather lite carpet cleaner. It was on sell for $70!!! Its works really good. Putting vinegar in for soulition helps too. It gets all the smell and stains out. The house may smell like vinegar for about a day, but the pee smell with be out.

The hubby and I just bought a Dirt Devil Feather Lite carpet shampooer. It was on sale at Walmart for $70.00. It works great, the only problem I had with ist is that it only has a gallon to hold your water and soulition. So it takes more running back and forth from the sink to where you are cleaning. We used vinegar for our soulition, it gets stains and smells out really well. Your house may smell like the vinegar for a day, but after that there is no smell, and the pee smell and stains are gone.

hmm.. i found this link
http://www.bissell.com/Main2.asp?Page_id=229&cookie_test=1

that says you leave a cleaner with enzymes on the carpet covered with a wet towel to break it up before you go over it.

Just thought I'd share I'm terrible with this stuff sometimes. hehe
