I have a 7 month old Shitzu-Pooo. He is much more energetic than I thought he would be. Also, the breeder told me he would be 10-12 lbs. full grown and not a "yipper" He is at 7 months approximately 25 lbs. and he does bark when he wants to play or to get attention. (Willie)is very "social". I think he thinks God made people just for him. I am 57 and my husband is 59, so we don't have the patience or energy we did 14 years ago when we had our pom-peke cross.

Also, Willie seems to think that his bowel movements are just fine on any carpet or hard surface in the house. Urination is pretty much outside. This is frustrating. I have made arrangements for him to go to Dog Obedience for 4 weeks and hopefully that will help with the basics of stay, no, down, etc. Am I the only one out there feeling out of control and wondering if I made big mistake by adding a pup at this time in my life? Any ideas on the inside "poop"?

Thanks.
Overwhelmed.

Until he is fully housetrained...your eyes should be on him at all times when he has free access to prevent any accidents in the house. Feeding him on a schedule will help you get a good idea of when he will have to poop. If you are watching him you will notice signals that he may have to poop such as circling, sniffing, squatting...with any notice of this behavior he should be taken outside right away and should be praised and given a treat directly after pooping outside. Accidents can be prevented if you are careful and each accident that is prevented will give him a better idea of where he is supposed to go.
