Hello,
I just had a couple questions that I was wondering if anyone could help me out with. The first one is that my 3 month old minature dachshund cry, whines, and barks every time that I leave the house, she even does this when I leave the room. She won't play with her toys by herself and I do play with her all the time but if I am trying to make dinner or something she just whines. I can't even take a shower without her getting upset so I now have to make sure she is asleep before I can take a shower. Is this normal or do I baby her to much? My second question is that she has learned to go pee outside and will let me know when she has to go but she still goes poo in the house. Is it unusual for a puppy to learn to do one potty outside but not the other? Okay and my last question is my puppy is getting these spots on her where her hair is falling out and you can see her skin and it is white and flaky. I have never seen this before does anyone know what it is? Thanks for your help.

hi trixie and welcome to auspet what you need to do about the whining and crying is let her cry. my pup did the same thing when i brought him home and after a while of the whining he realized he wasn't gonna get the reaction he was looking for it took a couple of days but it worked.i know it probably breaks your heart to hear her cry but if you don't get her out of doing that you'll find yourself stuck doing whatever she wants.

and the poo thing try catching her in the act and then telling her NO in a stern voice then take her outside take the poo out too if you didn't stop her in time and show her that it belongs outside.

about the hair falling out and flaky skin i don't know there you could try calling a vet they can give you info. on the phone

luvpups advice about ignoring is good. Just do what you need to do, turn a deaf ear to her. I know its hard, but you will have a better dog for it. not so dependant. The itchy dry patches, I don't think its mange becuase mange tends to be red and itchy. Is it? If so take her to the vet. Also I believe it is food related. Does she scratch at it and is this why her hair fell out or did it just fall out. What are you feeding her. You will find out that much of what goes on internally is related to the food you put in their mouths. She needs a high quality dry kibble. Or better do the barf diet(bones and raw food) If you could do that I know it would clear up. Bring her in to the vet just to rule out mange or ringworm(fungus).

I agree with ignoring him. Make sure you don't make a big fuss when you come home or leave the house..just leave and pay no attention to the dog. When you come home just ingnore the dog for a few minutes as if its no big deal. If you dont make a big deal about it he will also learn that it is no big deal.
My mother's poodle was fully house trained as far as peeing outside but would still occasionally poop in the house. Her yelling at him did'nt help because he then started pooping upstairs or in other areas when she was not watching. Do you have the dog on a feeding schedule? If not I would suggest you put him on one so that you will have a better idea of when he will have to poop and you can take him out and make sure he goes outside. If you take him out and he does'nt seem to have to go (but he has eaten a meal previously) trying playing with him outside and get him to run around.....this seems to induce pooping in some dogs. Always praise him for pooping outside and give him a treat directly after he goes. This should help him get the idea that you want him to poop outside.
As far as the spots where he is losing hair I agree with the others....a vet check is in order.

Thank you all very much for you advice!! I really Appricate it. I thought that maybe I would have to ingore her when I leave the room and the house and everything but like you guys said it is very hard to let them whine, it really does make you feel bad But I will have to do it. About the flaky skin she does have a vets appointment on Tuesday for her second set of booster shots and I was going to ask her then but I had never seen such a thing so I thought I would get some other ideas as to what it was. I am feeding her Purina Puppy Chow and she isn't right now on a set feeding time but I think I will have to do that to help with the accidents. Thank you all so much again for all of you advice.

i have a mini too and it does the same they just whine all night! the thing with mine is though is when you come in the house he pees everywhere mine also whines if he isnt played with email me back and with the flacky skin mine did that and we give him a special food the vet gave us!

When I took Trixie to the vet for the flaky skin she did too different test. The first was she took some skin samples from each of the areas to test for mites. The test for mites come up negative so then she took some hair to test for roundworm( I think that was the one she said) and that one also come up negative so she gave me a special shampoo to wash her with and the flaky skin went away in about 2 weeks. Also the vet recommended getting a Kong toy for when you have to leave. It has worked so great for trixie. I just fill it up with peanut butter or liver paste when I leave, put it in the cage with her, and she is so busy licking the paste out that she doesn't even realize that I left. It is awesome.
