my 1 yr old Shipoo Draco has recently been wanting TONS of attention. He will bring a toy over, sit at my feet and scratch my feet, if that doesnt work he starts to bark! VERY LOUDLY for the little thing that he is. he only recently started to bark when i didnt play with him and he always seems to want to play when i am at my computer or doing homework! i have always made it a point to play with him and his toys for a few minutes everyday but he still insists on wanting my attention when im busy. i thought that if i just ignored him he would give up and realize that this wasnt the most effective way to get my attention....but he will sit and bark for up to 20 minutes...and usually only leaves when something else attracts his attention. I also have two other dogs that he is always playing with and we have a large fenced in yard that he outside in most of the day. I just want to know what to do when he barks!!!

Tell him no, and try to ignore him. He has got you trained to do what he wants now you need to retrain him to do what you want. Maybe put him in another room if possible as it is important for you to get your work done.

Sunkist I have the same problem with my toy poodle. I will play with her alot when I get off work. But the second I lay down to go to bed she will start barking so I get up and play. Finally I have to put her in her crate to leave me alone. And that always quites her down. I dont punish her, but I give her down time in her crate.

Exercise him! He is obviously craving attention! A tired dog is a good dog! Try playing fetch or going for a jog? If you don't have the time to go out try to teach him some new fun trick to at least keep his mind busy. Some good tricks for you might be 'sit - stay' or 'down - stay' if he whines or barks tell him "NO! Quiet!" If he continues to talk to you try crating him in another room like puttin and nessa suggested. 4 or 5 minutes after he becomes quiet, let him out, praise and treat him. If he starts up again, crate him...He should learn that you want him to be quiet pretty quickly. Never pay attention to him when he's barking, because he will learn that if he barks for 20 mins and you pay attention, then next time he will try for 30 min and so on. Another thing that will keep him busy is a kong stuffed with treats. Try cutting a tennis ball in half and filling it with yummy treats, Draco will have to paw at it or roll it around with his nose to get the treats out.

Hope this helps!
