Hi all, I have a question--I have a 6 month old Shih Poo (female). How long will it be until she stops using my cream carpet as her personal powder room? SHe DOES go to the door when she has to go out, but once in a while there will be some nice presents left for me on the carpet!!! I praise her when she goes outside, and she gets the idea. Anyone know how long it generally takes small dogs to be 100% trained to the point where she doesnt have to stay in the crate when I am not here??? I just need an idea. Or does this go on forever!!

Hi! I just got a 11 week old Shnoodle, and she's already good about going in one spot in the yard. We put up sort of a little fence where we want her to go, and for the first little while make her stay there while she goes to the bathroom. Eventually you can let her come and go as she pleases. Also, at pet stores you can buy a sort of ammonia spray to help them know where to go. It usually takes dogs till they're between 6 and 8 monthes to be fully trained- but every puppy's different

my shihpoo took a couple of weeks to train he goes on the paper because i haven't started the outside thing yet. he did leave some presents every once in a while so i went out and got a baby gate so i could watch him at all times.it worked so you might want to try that untill she is 100 percent.and the crate thing i allways put my pup in his crate when i'm not home so he doesn't get into anything and hurt himself.you might want to continue to do that untill she gets out of puppyhood.

Thanks for all of your help! I have done the "piddle pads" in the kitchen, which helped a lot when she was younger. The only problem is, is that I live in an apartment building...With two big yards that are mainly used for all of the dogs in the building. I cant wait till I get a house and put up a fence!!! Thanks again!
