if his sugars go bad again he might need a different type of insulin. there are slow acting ones, fast acting ones, some combined with both blah blah. with humans the type of insulin used depends on their eating habits. whats he on at the moment?

Perhaps the dosage is too high and thus kicking the blood sugar too low in comparison to what kitty is also eating...rub the gums with Karo syrup if it falls too low, and omit the insulin....there is such a thing as insulin resistance...and there are many types of insulin, all the very same ones used in humans. The vet is gonna have to do a "glucose curve" during the course of a day, to see what is what as to eating/blood sugar value/and any insulin given. He just may strip the insulin and see just how the blood sugar is running alone as to diet.
Remember....if a cat has FUS, or Inflammatory Bowel Disease, the blood sugar will be offset and appear high.....I once had a vet tell me my cat was diabetic and gave him insulin at the office and he discharged him to me and within an hour he was having a seizure....he let me bring him home with a 46 blood sugar! Normal is between 70-120, just like a human...And told me he was diabetic with a blood sugar of only 204 and what he had was IBD which was diet-controlled...so ASK WHAT THE BLOOD SUGARS WERE...and READ, READ, READ!! My former vet took only 2 blood sugar values, and that's NOT A PROPER "CURVE"!! And make sure the vet hasn't inverted the numbers and thinks it's higher! I swear, this vet was reckless! You just may be your own cat's best vet!! Best wishes.

Thanks you everyone for writing back to me. I appreciate it! My kitty seems to be drinking very little, maybe a 1/2 cup of water a day rather than 5 cups. And is peeing once a day rather than 4-6. I think, I hope the insulin is working. The vet said his "normal" b/g may be around 200-250, so if we can get it to that point, he would be happy. I hope it is working, and if not, I may see if I can switch him to PZI Insulin. Anyone ever hear of it? Its suppose to be for cats....
Thanks for your good wishes. I will keep you posted on Friday when I take him for a blood sugar test.
