In the last year, my 7 year old neutered female cat has started peeing about 2x per week in different places outside of her litter box. (There is no consistency in where or when these "accidents" happen.) Nothing has changed that should cause this behavior, not the box, litter type, frequency of cleaning, etc. Everything is the same as it has been for the past years. I am moving soon and this is going to be a huge problem. Any ideas how I can stop this problem????

my mums 16 YO cat has been doing this for a couple of years. the vet said that it was cystitis, which is a bladder problem.
i should take it to the vets to see if anything can be done.

Hello. I wonder if your cat senses that a change is about to happen (moving) and it's stressing her out. Do you have things in boxes yet? Although, you did mention it has been going on for a year (or since the beginning of this year?), so that's probably not it.

If that's not it, it could be a UTI (urinary tract infection). This is fairly common in cats. UTIs can be painful, so they may at times avoid their litter box, as they associate it with pain. Also, with UTIs they may be unable to control where they urinate.
Of course there are always other medical and behavioral reasons for a cat to urinate outside of the litter box.

If it was my kitty, I would take her to the vet to rule out a UTI or possibly another medical condition. A UTI is very inexpensive to treat. You would get meds to take home with you.

If it's not that then it may be behavioral. Perhaps a person stressing her out or the upcoming move. Or even if you are feeling stressed out your kitty may sense this. Keep us posted.
