Hello,
My cat has been kept inside my home for all her life, so I don't worry about shots since she can't really get anything (you know an infection or something) plus I can't afford to get her shots either (including getting her spayed). Anyways almost every 2 weeks my cat goes in heat. She always wants to get outside because there are many male cats thatleave their scent on our lawn.I'm always tempted to let her out just to let her do her thing then take her right back home but then I am scared that she might catch a sickness from the other cats, or get hit by a car. What should I do? PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello. I know a lot of animal shelters/local SPCA will spay your kitty for free if you explain your finacial situation to them. Just call around and I'm sure you'll find a place that won't charge you. Keep us posted.

p.s. Not a good idea to let her out, as she may become pregnant which will be a whole other set of problems, for both you and your kitty. Just hang in there and make some phone calls to your local shelter/SPCA. Good luck.

What ever you do, DON'T let your cat out!!! Once she get out she will get pregnant guaranteed and you'll add more to the unwanted kittens. Be a responsible pet owner and find a free spay/neuter program or a low cost one. I neutered my cat for $25 which is nothing considering the companionship that your pet gives you. I'm tired of hearing excuses that people can't spay/neuter their pet because they can't afford it when in reality they can if they really truely care about their pet. If you can't spay or neuter your pet then you shouldn't be a pet owner. Get your pet fixed, please.

Here is a telephone # to find low-cost spaying/neuter program in your area : 1-800-321-PETS

Hi there i just thought i would add that your kitty does not need to go outside to catch any viruses you can bring them into the home when you have been out if you come into any contaminated areas same as fleas all it takes if for a flea to jump on you and you can carry it back home and the whole flea cycle begins.

I agree....do not let your cat outside.
Look into the low cost spay/neuter programs. Depending on your financial situation you may even be able to have it done for free and it usually includes a rabies vaccine as well.
Here are a few sites if your interested in locating a low cost or free spay/neuter clinic: http://spayusa.org/

hopefully this will help convince you that you need to get her spayed...

every heat you let this cat go through increases her chances of getting pyrometria or mammory cancer by .5%. Every heat....and if she's going into heat every 2 weeks her odds for developing either of these are getting pretty high.

If you can't afford the spay now imagine what the cost will be if your cat develops either pyrometria (infected uterus) or mammory cancer...lot more than the spay itself.

Please find some way of getting her spaye.
