I've posted messages before. I live on a farm with many kitties. As of now, all the ones we can catch (and even some of the feral ones) have been fixed at area low-cost clinics. Except for one cat. Several months ago when we took her to a clinic, the vet said he felt tumors in her mammary glands. He said they were likely cancerous and that he would not fix her. He also said she wouldn't make it until this spring to even be in heat again. Well, several months have passed and she's doing fine. But I think she's in heat again. I'm so frightened that she'll get pregnant and end up getting sick and not being able to care for her kittens (or being pregnant will stress her so much that it will make the tumors worse). I've been calling vets to see if anyone will fix her in this situation. The answer is "no" unless they do an exam and blood work regarding the possibility of cancer. This, not including getting fixed, is several hundred dollars.
We know she may have cancer, we know she may not live several more years, but we want her fixed so she does not continue to get pregnant in the meantime. Does anyone have any advice at all?
Re-reading this note, I know it sounds very cruel that we are not getting her treated for the tumors. I love cats more than anything, and it's very hard for me to write that we are just accepting her sickness. But having a farm full (well, not quite FULL) of dropped-off cats is much different than what most people are used to. One other note is that if it eventually comes to the point where she is sick, we will definitely have her put to sleep so she isn't suffering.
Anyway, I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

You really need to get a second oppinion. Obviously he's not familiar with the situation. For one, tumors don't mean jack for a reproductive system. There have been cats with severe cancer there and still had kittens..... Get her fixed, have the tumors removed if possible.

i can sympathise with your situation.
It may be a hard decision to make, but for the sake of the cat, perhaps you should consider having her put to sleep (?)
I am not being nasty by all means ! I am trying to think of the BIGGER picture here.
You have done a great job in getting the rest of the cats desexed at your own expense, and it sounds like you may have many vet bills to come in the future.... perhaps, for the good of all, this kitty should be layed to rest.
Would it really be worth the $$ in your budget to prolong a life that is shortened anyway ?

I would certainly get a second opinion, but consider the other kitties as well.

You may need that money for other kitties....
And your fear that if she were to get pregnant again, it would take so much out of her, she may expire, leaving these kittens alone and without a mum.... that would be heartbreaking ! Also , these tumours that are in the mamary glands, may effect the milk production, what if those kittens were to starve ???

Please be careful on the internet. Never give out your home address (or anyone else's), your full name (or anyone else's) your home phone number or your licence plate number to anyone on the internet.

I don't want anyone to take offense to what I just wrote. I am not implying that anyone here is dangerous. I'm simply saying that we should all be careful when we use the internet.

chessmind is right, we may not be bad but other people may skim off personal info on this website for their own personal use.

perhaps they can trade email addresses? that doesn't sound too bad.... i usually have an email addie i use for the these sorts of things, where i don't have my full name or information displayed.

with regards to the cat, i agree , you should take her for a second opinion. i don't think any of us here (unless a vet) are able to give an expert opinion/diagnosis of the kitty. hence i feel it is best you seek extra help in the matter from a pro.

best of luck.

Hi I am so sorry to hear about your cat but i have to agree with SAM even though the kitty has tumours of her mammary glands she can still be spayed as this has nothing to do with her oviaries and uterus they are whats being removed not the glands.
I also agree on getting a second opinion as they may also be able to remove the tumours.

Cats with cancer or even non cancerous tumours will still reproduce but the strain is higher on the female as her body is fighting to sort the tumours out please please please have her rechecked.

Also i agree with chess please never give out you address, phone number or anything like that as there is alot of nasty people about that will use this information at your expense.

No offence is intended to anyone.
