It sounds like he started out with mites and now has a secondary yeast or bacterial infection. I am not sure what meds they have given him. For the ear mites he needs a dose of revolution, or some ivermectin. For the infection he needs either an antifungal or a bacterial cream depending on what he has. The vet should swab the ear and look at it under a microscope to see if it is bacterial or yeast. Dermalone is very good and usually clears up both of those. If your kitty has something that is resistant to most drugs he needs something stronger like baytril. Sometimes it just takes awhile for them to clear up. My vet told me about a cat they treated for 2 months before the ear infection finally cleared up.

That is strange that one ear has mites and not the other. Normally that will happen with a bacteria or yeast infection, but not mites. If you don't trust your doctors diagnosis, you could always take ear swabs to a different vet. They should analyze the swab for around 20.00.

I don't know why the vet wont give you revolution. There are some over the counter ear drops for mites, but they dont work very well. It should take a bottle of ivermectin from the vet for under 20.00 to clear them up. Ear mites shouldn't cost very much to treat.

I asked my vet and she said that ear mites are all over the head and ears. She has never seen them in one ear and not the other. Definately look into a second opinion.
