Hi everyone
I have a question dealing with my kitten charlie, hes is very healthy now and hes getting very large My question is it normal for in to make weird "barking" sounds instead or meowing? He seriously only meows when him and cali are playing around, any other time when he is greeting someone or is just feeling chatty, he barks... Does anyone else have a cat who does this? Im just curious because he purrs just fine, could it be one of the breed in him? I now know his father was a himalayan or atleast part, but as for his mother she just a mixed short haired calico. Thanks for anyones ideas

barking?

my cat sounds like a goat! when she wants to say goodbye, or when someone is at a door of any kind, she says "mehehehehehehehe" like a goat.

That's pretty funny. You both have unusual cats.

Barking and Goats ? // LOL // That is to funny. I'd love to hear them doing that.

I don't feel so alone now / LOL / my 2 cats which are the bigger cats sound like babies when they meow. Even had people ask me when on the phone, "You have a baby in the house?" I crack up laughing every time. Some people have sworn they have heard my cats say, "Mom" // LOL

I use to always baby talk to them when they were kittens when I got them, and even said Mom'mom to them all the time. Now their one meow sounds like Mom / LOL.

My husband's Maine Coone makes chirping sounds like a racoon. He also squeeks in a very high pitched part-meow when we play with him. It sounds more like meah.
You may want to ask the vet about it through a phone call, or on your next appt. just in case.

My gram had a maine coon when i was little and i can remember him making chirping noises, lol. His vet had said it was normal for that breed to make odd noises. It was weird seeing this huge cat walking around almost like he was talking to the birds.

My cat makes the chirping noise too. But I think barking isn't too off of a discription of it. I'd type it as Keh-keh-keh type sound.

He usually does it when he's watching birds through the window, or trying to catch an insect that is out of his reach.

He also makes a growling type noise when he runs or jumps. I joke that he's reving like a car. Brummm brummm.

I just love my maine coone. He is so vocal with his chirping. He also chatters at birds while watching in the window sill. If I play music and dance, he walks around me swishing his tail back and forth while chirping loudly! If his litter box needs to be changed, or if he is upset, he has another unique meow/cry.

I also have an orange tabby who is very vocal. He talks back to us all the time in meows and chirps. When he is bored or restless, he wonders around the house meowing until we comfort him or play with him.
