Just wondering about something. I have, what I think to be a seal point Balanese, I don't think she's pure because I got her from a feed store.

Anyway, she's really sweet, love her to death. Her name is Java. I posted her picture on picturetrail.

But anyhoo, every night, she would get up in our bed and lay above my head and take a few strands of my hair in her mouth and start kneading my head. Her purr would get really loud and she'd continue to do this for about 5 minutes or so, then she'd run down the side of my body and lay on my hip, cause I sleep on my side usually.

It's an everynight ritual with her :-)

Just wondering if anyone else has a cat that does this? And why the hair in the mouth? She's not a kitten anymore, she's 2 years old and is a queen, mother of 4.

I have a 5 year old bluepoint Siamese that does something similar. She likes to knead on my jugular vein and have my hair under her paws - and does she drool.

The only positive side to this is her previous owner had her declawed...if she had her claws I don't think I'd be letting her "make biscuits" on my jugular vein.

I have an amber eyed white angora that I picked up at a rescue shelter. She is a big cat and she licks my hair when we are laying on the couch. Right now I don't have much hair left due to my rececnt radiation treatments for brain cancer (thank you in advance for your sympathy ) but you should have seen her on superbowl sunday when one of my friends girlfriend came over and had two feet of hair for Jazzy to play with! Heather lay on the gound and Jazz was playing with it on while on her back and was almost as if it was catnip! I grew up with four cats at home and this is "normal" behavior for cats even though each one may be a little bit different.

My cat loves to chew on my hair, but I discourage it and he has stopped some.

He especially does it when my hair is wet. Of course thats the time I hate it the most. Who wants thier hair to smell like cat food immediatly after a shower?

My male grey tiger, who is 8, does this every night. It actually helps me fall asleep from the warmth, massage, and purring. He kneads my neck while burying his nose in my hair and drooling. I wake up with a big tangle in my hair.

LOL, cool, well sometimes I wake up and Kes is sitting right in my face, looking at me purring... Such a cool feeling, but I just wonder what she's thinking lol She's never played with my hair but she for the first week slept under the bed covers, now she always sleeps on top, right by by legs with her head on my leg lol

Mybigfunny! Your cat sounds exactly like my Java. And I too, love it. Although, sometimes she gets carried away and it gets to hurting. I love the purring and the massage like feeling she gives.

From what I've read thus far, seems to be a normal behavior. But out of the nine I have, she is the only one who does this to my head (lol)

My parents cat does that to me..just the one. She jumps on top of whatever easy chair im in and since i have long hair...goes to work kneeding it and licking a little and making a nest which after a few minutes...she purrs and tries to sleep on top of. Its a nice head massage! Shes declawed thankfully ....i imagine it might be painful if the other two cats were the ones that did it! Her name when my mother got her was Helen Wheels (Hell on wheels) because she was such a terror and she had to declaw her because she was constantly injuring her and the breeders other cats kittens.
