Hi,
I have a wonderful cat, Whiskers, who is a Tuxedo (black and white) and has lost most of his teeth as he is getting on in years.

What is the life expectancy of domestic cats?

I had a Chinchilla Persion who lived to 21 and she was wonderful. Now Whiskers is nearly 22 years old, has visited a vet when he had a toothache about 3 years ago, again when he had a growth removed from his back about a year ago, but he is slowing down a lot.

I get worried as he insists on checking his domain each night before bed but is very careful crossing the road, looks both ways and waits until the street is clear. Stops in the middle of the road to see that it is clear again before going on. We live in a quiet street fortunately.

Whiskers has been an outside cat most of his life and has been the "town thug", his amusement is baiting dogs. He lies at the bottom of our drive and waits for them. If they chase him he just runs, stops dead, turns around and scratches their snouts! I suppose it is his sense of humour?

He is very obedient, comes when called, goes where he is asked to go and is always th "perfect gentleman".

But how long can I expect him to be with us?

Hi And welcome to the boards.
Wow 22 and still full of life that shows he has a loving caring owner so patt on the back to you.
The part about him baiting the dogs that is so funny the cat next door does that to my dogs and they are not amused as they know they are not to hurt another animal.

If i not mistaken i think the oldest recorded age of a cat was 30yrs old and she was put to sleep due to serious ill health or my guess she would still be here hehehehehe.

I think its like all animals they go when its there time and usually not until.
Your cat sounds like he is full of life and very healthy and energetic so my guess would be a few more years left in him yet.

good luck with him do you have any pictures of your little fella.
