My kitty has been on Hill's prescription diet the cd/s formula for probably about a yr. a half now, because on our move down here we had to stay with some friends for a couple days and they have an indoor/outdoor cat and Ozzie caught fleas from her really bad! So he actually lost weight from it and probably from being a little freaked about the move so in an effort to put a little weight back on him I was feeding him Fancy Feast and he had never eaten anything except Nutro Max and suddenly he started developing crystals, it was horrible freaked me out.....I had know idea what was going on, so anyways we got him on an IV-flushed him out , got him some antibiotics and put him on the cd/s or lately the sd because they haven't had the cd/s. So now a new vet has replaced the old and he is no longer going to be ordering the Hill's and he said I could use any food as long as it is low in Magnesium. So does anyone have any suggestion, I'm really concerned about trying another food, Ozzie is so sensitive and the thought of him being sick again.....not to mention how much that whole problem cost us! Some that were recommended on the internet are Purina Specail Care; Alpo Urinary Diet; Friskies Urinary Diet. Has anyone tried any of those?

you could try and get the hills cd/s diet from another clinic ?
most of the diets out there especially made for urinary tract problem prone cats are pretty good. I find my girl gets the crystals most when she eats any fish based foods.

Some of my cats had urinary problems with ash content in their food. It should be listed on the sidee of the bag. Now a days I go to PetCetra and get the Indoor/Hairball Control/Calorie Counts/Smell Reduced food. It's around 30 dollars canadian a bag but at least I am sure my Jazzy isn't being poisoned. I am not sure what brand it is but I will look when I get home.

I know here in MA c/d is a prescription diet food and you need to get the prescription from your old vet to get it from a new vet. I wouldn't switch to any other food, because c/d also helps with crystals as well as UTI's. You would want to keep you kitty on the c/d for these reasons. Try getting a prescription from your old vet and see if you can get the food that way. I would go with a food made esp. for UTI's if you can't get any c/d, because not being on the c/d does increase the risk of it coming back.
