Hi All,

About 3 months ago we adopted a 2-y.o. neutered male and were told at the time that he would be best with a buddy to keep him company. He cries a lot for company and loves to play. 3 weeks ago, we adopted a 4-month old spayed kitten (she was totally separate the first 10 days). The problem is he seems to want nothing to do with her. We have been introducing them very slowly, sharing their scents and putting her in the carrier with him out. He just sniffs it a few times and hisses. Whenever he sees her he utters a meow and hisses. They haven't had face to face contact, I'm a bit nervous as he's huge and she's just a tiny thing. So he still cries at night, bugging me to play with him, while she sits in her room, bugging me to play with her...do cats that want buddies take a while to warm up to them? I just thought that he would have been more interested in a buddy than he seems to be. Thanks!

Hello. Yes, just give it time. They will eventually like each other or at least tolerate each other. Be patient. I'm sure in due time things will calm down. Who knows they may end up being the best of pals. Another member here was having the same problem with her new kitten and her older cat. They just adore each other now. Keep us posted.
