we recently got a new female kitty who is about 18 weeks old. we have two other cats and the new one (Bell) keeps on eating the older cats' food to the point where she throws up. we are at a TOTAL loss as to what to do b/c we tried separating their food and the other two ended up not eating. does anyone have any suggestions? also, do you think there is something wrong with her b/c she overeats? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I have seen cats do this a lot. It could stem from various reasons:

1) Your new cat had to share food with many other cats (before you got her) and she's still in the mind set that she has to gorge her food before the other cats eat it all. However, gorging will then lead to throwing up.

2) She wants to eat all the cat food and not share it with your other two cats.

3) Cats like to eat many small meals throughout the day. How many times do you feed them?

4) She may have worms and is hungry at all times.

The difficult part is that they eat different foods.

Assuming there is no medical reason for this behavior she may stop doing this, when she realizes that there is plenty of food for everyone.

I'm sure other people on this site can help you with the trouble you are having with her eating the other cat's food and how to resolve it.
