I've had Pepi for about 2 weeks now, still yet to get him his first shots (I'm going, I promise! I just work freaky hours).

He's doing great, sleeps fine, eats fine, uses the washroom fine.

Except for one thing. He stays in the litter box for like 10 mins, scratching, before he goes. While he is scratching, he meows, but not like .. a normal meow, it's a lil one .. almsot like a grunt.
Anyway, I am friends with the person that I received the cat from, and apparantly, 2 of his brothers do the saem thing!

Kayli (my previous cat) has suddenly started 'grunting' too while she's in there.

Do they have some sort of problem? Bladder infection?

Hello. It may be that he is having a hard time going to the bathroom. Read the post that I left for Dolly (cat crying after bowel movement). 10 minutes is a long time for a cat to be in the litter box.

I'm glad Pepe is doing good (other than the meowing in the litter box). He's so cute.

I actually read that post immediately after I posted mine.
He just digs a lot, maybe he's meticulas about cleanliness, but we keep the litter box clean.

Hopefully it's not a big problem.

Perhaps he is trying to dig the perfect hole to go to the bathroom in, but he either doesn't like the litter or it's not deep enough. Handsome likes at least 3-4 inches of litter.

If you get a chance try and see what his poops look like. See if you find any hair in it. He's very fuzzy.

It's funny how Kayli does it all of a sudden though? Maybe she is just being a copy cat ... lol.

Hmm.. I have two guesses.

Maybe with the two cats now the box isn't as clean as before and they're searching for a good spot to go. Or maybe they're just playing.

Have you changed the type of litter you usually get? Perhaps, Pepe and Kayli have either the same or different issues. For instance maybe one or both doesn't like the litter or the lack of litter (less than 3 inches) and they are meowing because they want to go poop so bad, but they have to make their perfect 'hole' to go in first.

I would try getting one more litter box if you don't already have two. They say you should have one litter box per cat. Also try another type of litter in the new box. I know Handsome doesn't like the scented kind.

Also, because Pepe is so furry, brush him once a day to remove any loose hairs that could end up in this stomache (from grooming himself).

One more thing, if you want me to post the pics you sent to me via e-mail, I would be more than happy to post them for you on my picturetrail album. They are both super cute. By the way, how are they getting along?

I would love for you to post the pics! I have a few more good ones I could send.

I upload my pictures at another site, and I guess the addy cannot be posted here (advertising or something).

They are getting along great! They play together and sleep together and groom together, it's so wonderful.
Kayli has gotten better (with us) and is now back to her loving self. She doesn't follow us aroudn too much anymore, but she still sleeps w/ me and sits w/ me on the couch.
