we just got a new kitten! he already is showing signs that i think are earmites..anyone know the signs i should be looking for, and what treatment can be done on a kitten. we went to get earmite treatment and the box said over 12 weeks, which he is not. he is actually starting to lay around looking a bit disoriented...is that part of the earmites???Help, we are panicing, we just lost our other cat last week, this would devastate our kids.

Hello. There is so much information to give to you about ear mites, that it will be easier for me to just have you click on the web-site below. You will have to take your kitty to the vet to treat the ear mites. He/she will most likely clean the ear out and give you ear drops to take home. It's very important that you do not try to remove the ear mites, as you can damage your cat's ears. Keep us posted. http://www.cah.com/library/earmite.html

p.s. I forgot to ask if your kitty is eating and drinking. If not that could be a sign of something else that is wrong, besides the possible ear mites.

The over the counter stuff doesn't work very well. You will probably need to get some ivermectin from the vet. The other thing that works is Revolution. It is a flea treatment but it also kills mites and some other parasites.
