My kitten(14 weeks old) refuses to let me or my girlfriend sleep. She's a real sweetheart and affecionate which we love, but at night she is just too much. She sleeps on one of our pillows and starts purring the second we try to fall asleep. If we don't respond with pets then she will start licking our face, then our hands and eventually will bite our hands until we wake up and pet her. After about 10 minutes she usually lets us go back to sleep as she ajusts herself against the top of our heads. If we move at all she tumbles down right next to our face and the purring, licking and biting starts again. Anyone have any advice on how to change this behavior? At first it was cute, but 7 weeks later its really causing problems for us.

HI, This is typical female behaviour they love the attention and get very upset when they dont recieve it hehehehe.

Other than shutting her out of your room at night there is really little that can be done.

Have you got her a little bed she can sleep in or am old piece of clothing with yours and your girlfriends aftershave/perfume on it and give her that to sleep on she may take to it quite well and you could get a good nights sleep keep us posted of how she doing.

Honestly, my husband and I suffered through it until it stopped. We didn't want the cats locked out of the room. Plus, if we tried, I think the scratching at the door would annoy me more than the licking at my face.

My cats adjusted to my schedule over time. They now know that when I get home from work, it's their time. They also know when I go to bed, they can lay beside me but not look for attention.

The only thing I did was ignore them when they bothered me at night.

I wish I had better advice. But, I'm sure your cat will grow out of it... I've had many cats in my lifetime and they all grew out of it.

Hello. You could try playing with her a lot before it's time for sleep. Perhaps all that running around will make her so tired she'll just want to sleep herself.

I had the same problem.
We've had our cat for 4 months (she's 5 1/2 months old now) and we kept her in the washroom for 3 months .. I felt HORRIBLE about it and decided to try letting her sleep with us.
She'd go crazy for a few hrs. We'd give her a 'chance' for 2-3 hrs and then put her in the bathroom if she was too bothersome.
Eventually, it became 6 hrs.
Then, she started to leave us alone (other than sleeping on our pillows, which we don't mind).
Eventually (the past 9 days) she has slept with us comfortably! IT's great! I mean, yes, she wakes us up every 3-4 hrs for a few mins for a lil attention, but I think she just wants to make sure we're alive!

Try it out .. maybe it'll work.

Completely ignore her when she wakes you up. If she doesn't get attention she will stop doing it. Even if you are giving her negative attention she will keep doing it. You can put her on the floor and pretend to go back to sleep. She should get the idea. Luckily I am a heavy sleeper so my kittens never bothered me too much.
