My vet told me that my cat had a plaque problem on her back teeth.

I've tried giving her many different cat treats specifically mean't for their teeth but haven't found one that she'll eat.

I than got kitty tooth paste (which she actually likes the taste of) but she'll only let me get a few quick brushes in (with either the brush or finger brush) before she decides she has had enough and starts to try and bit me.

Any suggestions on esier ways to remove plaque. My vet said he could do but had to put her out to do it, I want this to be a last option since it could be fatal for her.

I use a product called oxyfresh, www.oxyfresh.com. You put it in their water and it keeps their teeth clean. It does a better of keeping them clean when they are clean instead of actually removing the plaque. I have had several of my cats under to have their teeth cleaned and they were fine. I know there are vets who will clean teeth without putting the cats under, maybe you can find one in your area.

The oxyfresh will definately help. It seems kind of expensive, but the bottle lasts forever so it really isn't.

Hello. I understand what you are going through with brushing your kitties teeth. Just so you know, the only reason a vet would put a cat under to clean their teeth is for the vets sake.

Try what Fleafly suggested and also even a few brushes that you do will actually help. It's better than nothing.

I brush Handsome's teeth as well. He's used to it by now. I don't spend more than one minute doing it each time (that's about the point where he gets fussy).

I will definitely try the oxyfresh stuff, hopefully I can find it somewhere. I hope that that combined with the few brushes everyday will help.

If I don't see any improvement in a month I'll get the the vet to clean them.

I put it in whenever I fill the water up. I have automatic waterers that hold 1 gallon each. I just dump the oxyfresh in when I fill it up.

You can order it from the website if you can't find anywhere to buy it locally. I have been doing that b/c no one carries it.

Okay so I bought this stuff called
"Petrodex Dental Treats" by Virbac from Walmart.

The amazing thing is that they are soft and big so too get Blanche too eat them I shoved one of her favourite Temptation treat in it and she eats them up no problem.

My question is does any one have any experience with these treats and compnay. Does it actually help their teeth and is it a good company.

An update on Blanche's teeth.

the good news is I don't think I'll need to take her to the vet to have them cleaned.

I've brushed her teeth everyday for the last 2 weeks. She no longer struggles or tries to bite me. ( She has claws never uses them) She just sits on my lap and lets me do it.

This combined with the Petrodex treats and sneaking bounce dental treats in with her regular food has shown great resullts. Her teeth are no longer orangy brown but yellowy white.

And too think my vet suggested getting something metal to scrap it off with, that would have been a disaster waiting to happen.
