![]() ![]() ![]() Hi, I have 2 girls and one boy. My boy cat is a BIG Mush all the time, and the 2 girls show love when they want. I always heard that girls are standoffish--but that is just from my experience. Maybe its all in the way you love them back. I am sure whichever sex you decide, will be ok for your son. Good luck! ![]() ![]() ![]() I really think it depends on the cats personality. I have never noticed a gender difference. The two cats I can't keep off of my lap are both females, but my boys are loving too. It might be better to get a slightly older cat b/c you will know more of how their personality will be. Not all cats can or want to deal with young kids. Try going to the shelter and asking the people about the cat's disposition. Usually adopting from a shelter is a good deal and will save you money. ![]() ![]() ![]() I always wanted a male kitten, because I heard also that males were more friendly, loving, affectionate as compared to females. I now have twins, brother and sister that are 6 months old. When I first brought them home (they were 11 weeks old at the time), the girl (Abby) wasnt very affectionate or loving, but the boy (Arnie) was VERY loving, purred, sat on my lap, always coming to greet me, etc....Abby was always running away from me, didnt want to be near me, yet alone hold her or pet her....that was when they were almost 3 months old......... NOW, when they are 6 months old, ABBY is the more affectionate kitty....sits on my lap ALL the time, rubs her face up against me, purrs like there is no end to tomorrow..... and Arnie is less "friendly"....I mean he is still friendly, greets me all the time and does purr alot, but I cant get him to sit on my lap Sorry to ramble on....Anyway.....it really doesnt matter what you get, it really depends on their personality IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I agree that it really depends on the individual cat. I have males and females all of which are very affectionate. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Something I forgot to add on..... I HIGHLY recommend adopting from your local SPCA. Not only is it inexpensive, but usually includes their 1st shots, their 1st vet visit, free bag of kitty food ![]() ![]() IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I have 6 cats (2 girls and 4 boys) and I also agree that it depends on the kittie. My siamese female is just now starting to become really affectionate (she's 8 months), while my 3 month old female never stops being affectionate. All of my males are big babies and love attention. In fact, sometimes they want too much. They'll follow me around the house and even into the bathroom while I take a bath if I don't make sure the door is closed good enough. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() My cat is a female and is TOTALLY affectionate aLL the time. She even hangs out on the counter while we brush our teeth. It's great. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Yep, cats personalities are unique and can't be determined by whether they are male or female. That said, the pattern I have noticed is that the male cats are the cool, laid back cats that aren't intimidated by guests and often like when there are social events. Girls tend to be a little stand-offish with strangers, especially if the owner is a single woman, but conversely often give more love to their owners. I wouldn't say that these things are guaranteed but I think they seem to have a tendency to go that way...at least with the cats that I've met. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() That is so not true in my house. When people come over several of my girl cats and one of the boys swarm them. One of the other boys skulks around and slowly comes up to sniff their legs and feet. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I don't know if you have already gotten the cats or not, but I have some quick advice. You should probably get an older cat, not only for the reason I mentioned before, but they will be more hearty. If a little kid steps on or sits on a little kitten they can really hurt it. An older cat wont be injured so easily. I know a lot of rescue groups wont adopt little kittens to families with small children b/c they have had so many accidental deaths. You probably want a cat that is 5-6 months. They are still cute, but big enough not to be hurt so easily. IP: Logged |
