There are plenty of cats in my neighbourhood who roam around freely.

I saw the strangest thing yesterday when I was walking.

First I came upon a cat that was yowlling and scratching a tree ferociously. I stopped and called it over. It came to me and it appeared to be perfectly fine, wasn't foaming at the mouth or anything. I petted it for awhile and when I left it started yowlling again.

Second, I walked around the corner and saw a black cat licking the tire of a car, I coudn't believe it, why would a cat lick a tire.

Third, not less then a block away in a park I saw this cat chasing a skirrel. I watched it for a 5min before continuing this cat just wouldn't give it up. It was still chasing it when I left.

Has anyone else seen Cats acting this strangely?

Please share your Strange Cat Stories.

Speaking of cats liking things and acting wierd:

My cat has a stuffed duck. It is basically his chew-toy/arch-enemy and whenever he trys to play too rough and starts to bite me I taunt him with the duck and he attacks it. It is a great game, and he loves the duck, and even attacks it when I'm not taunting him.

Well, the duck was getting kind of nasty so I washed it over the weekend. When it came out of the dryer Footsie walked around it in circles for a while, sniffing it. Then he proceeded to give the thing a bath! It was so funny to watch, I could hardly believe it. He managed to "clean" the whole thing and now it smells like cat food again!

I think my 2 kittens are crazy..... the 'scratch' their paws around their food and water bowls before AND after they eat. They dont "scratch" the carpet with their paws, but they just "rub" their paws on the carpet before and after they eat or drink....EVERY TIME!

Merlin moves his feet while he drinks water. He just stands there and moves his paws up and down the whole time he is drinking.

Yesterday Moo was on my lap and he started licking my fleece pants that I was wearing.

I'm sure I will think of more weird cat stories b/c I have plenty of them!

footsie: my cat Bebe has an archy enemy snoopy dog toy. I have some pictures of her attacking it on the link I posted.

Chieve is constantly sniffing everything. He also rubs his feet on the floor while drinking and also before he plops down on the floor and begins rolling back and forth.
Once I spilled a bit of corn starch on the counter and before I had a chance to clean it Chieve got up there and was sniffing it then he rubbed his feet in it and then rolled in it. He did the same thing when I was sanding my walls...I had to keep chasing him out of the room because he kept rubbing his feet in the dust and rolling in it. LOL.

Handsome rubs the floor with his paw too. He did it more often as a kitten though. However, he only did this after he was done eating.

I wonder if cats in the wild cover up their food, so that other animals won't smell it. Perhaps that's where our cats got it from.

Any ideas as to where this behavior stems from?

FleaFly- Fleabag does that. My mother thinks he's diranged or something.

And they will not drink out of a water bowl!!! NOpe, they drink out of the Beta tank. Mom has to fill the fish bowl every day. I'm convinced that they are tying to drink the water down to get to the fish. Mom said it must be like Coolaid for cats, Fish Flavored!

Maggie will scratch all around her food bowl after she's done for a good 5 minutes! plus she only does this with her wet food not her dry!
And she will only drink her water out of a glass or teacup, if it's in a bowl she won't touch it.
Weird kitty!

My cats also won't drink out of a water bowl. We have to have a big cup on our coffee table. I think it started when the kitties were kittens and we used to let them finish our water when we were done.

I also have to have water sitting right outside the bathroom. We do keep water by their food, but they don't touch it.

I have heard that cats actually don't prefer to have their water by their food. It stems back to wild cats and that their watering holes weren't necessarily near where they made their kill. I thought that was interesting.

If there is a tennis ball on the ground Ruth likes to roll around with it. She rolls around and rubs on it, she also does that with my shoes sometimes.

When I am going to the bathroom, Moo like to climb in my pant leg while my pants are down. He'll just jump right in and get comfortable.

The other day I was laying on the floor in the living room and Pirate came up and started eating and attacking my hair.

Yesterday I was looking at a magazine and Pirate came up and stuck his head under the cover of it. He was trying to hide under it except he weighs 14 lbs so it barely covered his head.

My cats like to eat their cat house. They sit in it and rip at the carpet.

I told you I had a lot of weird cat stories.

I found my little girl, Nikki, sitting in front of the wall outlet and meowing at it the morning after I made the laser dot 'disappear' into it.

My big boy, Pizza, burps all the time, and I've been meaning to ask if others' cats do this?

Fleafly- I love your cats name, Moo!

My cat Smoky lifts the water bowl with his paws or teeth and dumps it over constantly. We have also taught him to play fetch with paper balls (he won't do it with anything but certain types of paper).

Juggaloco also rolls back and forth on the ground to get me to pet his belly.

And my mom's cats don't drink out of the water bowl either. They will cry by the sink until you turn the faucet on.

Blanche will wait at night until I turn off my bed side light.

The second it is out she leaps on to my bed. She instantly starts purring like crazy and rubs up against my face and kneads by hair/skull, oaccasionaly she'll even chew on my hair.

Hiding under the covers doesn't work either. She'll pounce up and down on me and try and get under the covers.

This craziness usually lasts 10min. At which point she'll walk halfway down the bed and promptly fall asleep.

It's the wierdest thing.

When my cats were little I used to wake up to them attacking my hair. It was really vicious sometimes. I sleep through anything, so they have to attack me pretty hard to wake me up.

Moo has always liked to sleep under the covers. He likes it if there is just enough room for his head, he will stick his head in and wiggle the rest of his body in.

Lately Milo has been sleeping under the covers with me. He gets in and just leaves his head sticking out and lays it on the pillow by mine. I can't say that I blame him since it has been cold lately. The other cats come and lay on top of him though b/c they don't realize he is under there.

my kitten charlie also has a bad habit of trying to eat my hair after i get out of the shower... I think its because when its wet its so long. He even sits on the bathtubs sides and plays with the water. Hes so weird.

Jack is not a big social cat, he usually likes to be left alone, but this morning he couldnt get enough of me!! He sat in the bathroom the whole time i was in there getting ready for work, the best part was he sat in the bathtub and just watch me. it was so cute! this little cat head is all i could see just staring at me. then he would jump up on the toilet and play with the water, hop back down and get back in to the tub to watch me so more! krazy kat!
lotty and the kitty!

My cats have their own toy box. They have various balls, meeces, furry things, etc...their favorite toy? The ring off the milk jug cap.

Also, when my BT was a bit younger, he would fetch his toy, drop it at my feet, and do a somersault. One night he repeated this 27 consecutive times. I wished I had had a video camera!
