My mother has had her cat (female) for about 7yrs now. It used to be a stray, but she took her in. She recently told me that sometimes the cat bleeds and has lost a large amount of weight. On a recent visit to my mother's house, I had noticed a signifant drop in weight. I also noticed heavy breathing an it looked as if they were short and rapid, yet she hadn't done anything strenuous. She sleeps most of the time and has been having strange behavior. My mother has also just recently noticed her drooling (dripping). She took her to the vet and they took blood and ran tests, apparently the tests came back clear. I'm not sure what to do or if any of her symptoms soun familiar to any of you. If they do...please let me know what specifically I should ask the vet. I hate to see her looking like this.

Where exactly is she bleeding from?

If it was my cat, I would seek another vet for answers. By law we are entitled to copies of our health records (pets and humans). I would ask the vet that your mom went to see to give her a copy of all the test results. That way she won't have to pay to have the same tests done twice.

I realize your mother may like her current vet, however he or she was unable to give a diagnosis.

Somewhere out there is a vet who will know what is wrong with her cat.

One My cats had similar symptoms and he was found too have Diabetes. He was 24lbs and dropped down too 10 within a few months.

I would get a second opinion, maybe the vet just missed something
