I just finished watching on the news about this lady who has 12 cats. They didn't get to specific on anything but apparently the S.P.C.A. has taken the cats away from her before and than gave them back.

This time after the the S.P.C.A recieved 15 complaints they went in and found the cats living in confined areas with no access to food and water, one was even living in a litter box, they also mentioned one was in a poorly ventilated area.

So they sent the cats to a vet who will examine them to determine if they are healthy or not. Based on this they will determine if they will give the lady the cats back.

The women claims that the cats should not have been taken away since they are all perfectly happy and healthy. I can't believe some people.

I hate Ontario, Canada's laws about pets and what constitutes abuse. It took a dog being dragged behind a care as "punishment" for them to really pay attention. So now if you do something really abusive like that your not only fined but go to jail, rest of the time they don't care.

So now you can see why calling the S.P.C.A about two cats being tied up doesn't bother them at all. They didn't even care when a couple of people in my dads neihgbourhood called concerning a dog being tied up outside all day a never being let off or brought inside, or about this lady who had around 18 cats in one house all of which ran around outside having kittens, they al had fleas and looked like they had worms too. They were only removed when the lady died.

Sometimes it's just frustrating knowing you could call, but unless the animal is seriously hurt they don't care.

That is terrible. I do wish they would make more strict animal negelect/cruelty laws everywhere.
There are so many people who have no business even owning pets.

I think animal cruelty should be a felony in every state. Currently it is only a felony in a couple of states. It just became one recently in Texas. I watch Animal precint on Animal planet sometimes. Its sad knowing that these people will get a couple hundred fine and then they will go out and get another pet and do the same thing.

Animal cruelty is a serious problem. 99% of serial killers started out by torturing or injuring animals.

Every situation is different, but it definately needs to be taken more seriously.

I would love to see a world where the animal population is under control and only people that really want a pet and will take care of it can get one. That is my dream.

We are pretty lucky in the UK with the RSPCA they will help any animal who is being cruelly treated but unfortunately they are pretty under funded and rely on volunteers alot of the time.
They don't have the same kind of powers as some of the animal cruelty people in the states and its very rare to get custodial sentence for animal cruelty here. People tend to get bans and fines instead. Personally I think this is really wrong and custodial sentences, community service and other punishments should be used instead.

We can only hope that at some point in the future things will improve for our little furry friends.

Katrina have you tried talking to your friend about giving her cats up for adoption?

She wont give her cats up for adoption, since she loves them a lot.

since I've explained to her the bad points of tying up cats she has started to let them off more and more. Hopefully when I visit her in a couple of weeks I can get her to let them all off the leash all the time.

The laws are very similar here on the East Coast in Canada. In fact, I know of a few volunteer animal organizations unrelated to the SPCA who will go in and take the pets away when the SPCA will not intervene. On occasion they have gone in and taken the animals without owners consent. From the few cases I have heard about, the animals removal were well warranted.

We need more organizations like that!

I think it's really sad to see and hear about animals being treated wrongly. Sometimes people need to take the law into there own hands, the laws in this world only suit the rich who have pet minders. Do the people who abuse their animals no what they are doing or do they have a screw lose in there head??
I'm always hearing about how a dog atacked a child or what ever, but what about the people attacking the dog, or cat???
The dog gets put down, the animal abuser gets........?

Most people just don't care about animals. It's disgusting.
