http://www.peta-online.org/feat/iams/video.html

i just wanted to what something on my cat food bag says, hope u guys can help me out.
on the cat food bag it says

AAFCO Statement- Animal feeding tests using AAFCO procedures substantiate that Nutrience Maintenance Cat Food provides complete and balanced nutrition for the maintenance of the adult cat.

i just want to know what this means..is this a good or bad thing?

It means that they have lab animals that they keep in cages and make them eat their food. www.peta.com is the best web page for information on pet foods that do not test on animals.

Basically, the label means that in their feeding tests the animals got the required nutrition they needed from eating their food.

This is a good thing. It means that this food has actually been fed to cats and has been proven to meet the minimal nutritional requirements. Feed trials are only about 6 months long. I don't think animals are mistreated during feed trials but I guess it would really depend on where the feed trials were conducted. Some of the larger companies do their own feed trials.

Well, I can't say for sure but feeding trials do not require invasive, surgical lab experiments.
Many companies do AAFCO feeding tests but this is not an indication that abusive, experimental tests are also being done.

If you want to know for certain how the animals are treated in the pet food you give your pet, just e-mail PETA.

Tell them the name of the company that your pet food comes from. Then ask them how the tests are done, how the animals are kept, for how long, and what do they do with the animals once the tests have been completed.

They know what each company does. I think they are your best source for your questions. Good luck and let us know what you found out.

So I just checked out the site (in the first post) and .. wow .. that's horrible.
Why would they hurt these animals just to produce dog/cat food?

Yup, I've heard and seen horrible video footage on the Iams company. So very sad that animals have to go through that.

I didn't know that about Iams!! I am horrified! I feed my guys that. I am never buying it again though I can tell you that. Does anyone know anything about Science Diet?? My guys like that one too. I can buy that from now on if it's a decent company.

Thanks for the info! I am so sad for all the animals I saw in that link

i'm not sure. try to avoid any foods with artificial colouring, and foods with high megnesium and ash content as this can cause UTI's
