Hi all,

I've just discovered the forum and was sooooo impressed with all the good advice out there, so I'll pick your brains with my own situation. I recently lost my 11-year old male (he died) and I wanted to get another cat for me and my 12-year old girl. Three weeks ago I got a 2-year old male who is full of beans and loves to play, but my girl hates him and hisses like crazy. I'm introducing them very slowly, but I know that she won't ever be able to keep up with him and he really wants a playmate. I've decided to get another young cat (around 6 months) to keep him busy so that my girl will be left alone (hopefully). Here's the question: should I wait to throw another cat into the mix (not literally of course) or should I get one now so that the 2-year old will have a buddy? Thanks!

Do you think another cat would further upset your 12 yr. old? Is she bothered by the presence of the new cat or just bothered when he tries to play with her?

I think you need to judge why she is upset first. Is she upset b/c she doesn't want to play with the other cat, or b/c she still misses her friend and resents anyone new being around? If it's the former then another cat might help, if it's the latter another cat might make things worse.
