Ok.. some of you replied to my last post about the 3 kittens being weaned.. and thank you! Hopefully by the time they've reached 8/9 weeks they should be all set..
Now.. I have two other cats, a little over a year old...
I am having a HUGE problem with the male cat - Hobbes. I can not have any water out in a bowl or in a dispenser of any kind! He bathes in it.. or plays with it so much that it causes a mess... I've limited his water, by just pouring a cup at a time in a bowl and watching him drink it, then making sure there isn't enough left for him to play with. Unfortunately, at the same time.. my female cat - Sassy doesn't have water readily available to her - he hogs it all up ! I've tried seperate bowls.. nope.
What can i do!?!? He sometimes lays in front of the bowl if there is water in it and splashes it around til it's all gone...I try to catch him in the act.. but who has time to sit there and wait til he does it - he's sneaky so he does it the minute I turn around .. sheeesh

I'm sorry but I had to laugh at the thought of your cat playing in his water. Do they have a big bowl or does he play in it regardless of the size?

Gchatt... My 8 month old kitten does the exact same thing! It used to drive me nuts, everytime I turned around he would have the entire bowl dumped over, and slips and slides all thru the kitchen in it. Both of my cats just absolutely love playing in water. They play under the faucets, in the showers, etc.

I got tired of him dumping his bowl, so I bought one of those jug like water dispensers, and that was even worse... he figured out how to get the water to come out, so he would put his paw by the opening, until the entire jug of water was overflowed onto the floor! LOL I now have a Deluxe Fresh Flow water purifier, so he can't do that anymore.

One thing I do that helps ALOT... I let them outside on my screened in porch... I put a container of water out there for them to play and splash in... they have a good ol' time with it. When its too cold outside, I put it in the tub and leave the shower door open, and they get in there and play in it. Ever since I started doing that, he doesn't play in his water bowl as much.

Gotta love em, they crack me up... never seen cats that liked water as much as the two I have now!

Maybe one of those no-tip water bowls would work? They seem to have a less wide opening and maybe it would be harder for him to play in. Might be worth a try.

I have one of those jug dispenser things, I wasn't sure how to describe it. My cat, Pirate, who looks just like nern's tabby likes to play with it when the water is coming out b/c it makes noise. He reaches around behind it. He used to make a big mess, so I would correct him when I saw him doing it. I guess the thrill wore off or something b/c he doesn't do it anymore.

Thanks everyone...

Hobbes' dish is not really large.. and it's quite heavy so he doesn't really tip it.
He just splashes his head and paws in it enough to get it everywhere...

I've also tried the bottle dispenser, and the other water dispenser, but he's figured them out

I leave the faucet in the tub dripping occasionally.. but that's still not enough... I've tried squirting him with the water gun when he's playing with his water, but it's funny he tries to catch the stream in his mouth! LOL
Hopeless i tell you !! hahahaha

feel free to keep the tips coming though.. I'll keep trying new things
Thanks
Glenda
BTW - How do you post a pic ?

I wish my cats like water, so that I can bathe them. Try using one of those thing holds the water inside and require the cat to lick them in order to get water out. That way, you don't have to worry about it. Just a thought
