What are your feelings on these mats that emit a small shock when the animal steps on them? I didn't know if advising to use these or mats that emit a loud shreik that is uncomfortable to animals would be considered abusive on this list. Just wanted to see what the population felt about these methods of keeping cats out of rooms and off furniture. I have seen them advertised in Dr. Fosters and Smiths catalog.

NTC,

I am not opposed to these mats. I don't feel that they are any worse than a water gun and it shouldn't take very long for the cat to learn not to lounge in forbidden areas.

I just use the classic water bottle but i dont see why it would hurt. If it just annoys them to hear it i see no reason to be worried about it. I just dont like the idea of it shocking them.

Personally, I think that administering electric shocks as a behavior modification tool (for cats, children, etc.) is wrong, and I would hope that one would try all other solutions first before resorting to this kind of thing.

Of course that's just my opinion.
