My 6 year old male tabby cat who I have lived with since before he was born (my parents have his mommy) has just started to hide and will not come out from under the bed. Has been tested for FIV a few years back and had all shots for the first 3 years of his life. The last 3 years, I stopped the shots after surprising findings and cancer links to the vacs. Anyway, he has never been outside and still eats, drinks, uses litterbox. Yesterday he almost acted as if he was blind and would not follow any toys, etc. Vet cannot find anything wrong with him...no environment changes have occured, etc. I did have a cat die from FIV when I was little and remember knowing she was sick when she started to hide under the bed and would not come out. Any suggestions? I am scared to lose him. Thank you.

Is he normally scared of anything? Is there something going on outside that might be scaring him? Does he come out to eat or do you feed him under the bed?

My kitty hides under the bed anywhere from an hour to a couple days depending on whats scared her. And the odd thing is she develops new fears every day - the new one is rain against the window.

Sorry, I don't know what would cause this problem, and I've never had any cats with FIV. You mentioned not getting shots for your cat anymore, but I want to stress the importance of getting rabie shots. Even if you don't get any of the other shots because they cause cancer, rabie shots are still very important for your cat, whether it's an inside or outside cat, but espeically if your cat goes outside.
