Hello, my name is Tammy Gagne. I am a published freelance writer from Southern Maine who specializes in writing about animals. I am also a columnist for Bird Times magazine.

I am currently working on a piece about the acclimation process of adopting a stray cat. I plan to address both the scenario of adopting from a rescue facility and the situation of taking a cat in directly off the streets.

I am looking for a few succinct, informative quotes from people who have experience with this topic.

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Please just be sure to include your full name and location (either city and state or just state is fine) so I can credit you properly if I use your response. Please just copy and paste the following questions with your answers into an e-mail to the address below.

1. As someone who has taken in a stray cat, what do you think is the most important thing a person should know before taking in a stray?

2. What problems (if any) did you encounter? How did you deal with them?

3. Did you have any other cats at the time? How did this affect the situation?

4. Did you convert the new cat into an indoor-only cat? If so, was this a difficult transition?

5. Was the cat you took in pregnant? If so, please explain how you handled this -- i.e. the birth process, finding homes for the kittens, etc.?

6. Overall what do you think was the hardest part about adopting a stray cat?

7. What advice do you have for someone thinking about adopting a stray? Would you do it again?

8. Is there anything else you would like to add about adopting a stray cat?

Thank you for your input. I look forward to reading your responses.
