My baby boy is going through all of the above - he's been in the hospital now for 3 days, on antibiotics and being hydrated, but won't eat. All tests are coming back "nothing wrong"...I'm scared out of my mind and am barely functioning myself as well. I can't bear the thought of losing him.....how do I stop the madness before I die right along with him???

I can understand your concern about your cat. I, too, recently went through (and I am still going through a tough situation) My vet thought my cat was diabetic after much tests. It had a fever one day and I had to bring it to the emergency room. After a retest, my cat doesn't seem to be diebetic, but now i wonder what exactly is wrong with her.She did have a urinary track infection though. I understand your concern with not eating. My cat wasn't eating for a few days and she is starting to eat,but not alot. I am just happy to get her to eat something. Do you have your cat at home now? What I did to try to get her to eat was that I bought all sorts of food that she might like. The only thing she wanted to eat was Tuna. She won't eat anything else right now. I was force feeding her mushy cat food. I would suggest doing that until you can get your cat to eat because after reading on the internet, a cat can get a secondary sickness from not eating. There is a reason your cat isn't eating. What has the vet tested for? I just recently bought a dietary supplement for my cat that is high calorie and is good for picky eaters. It has vitamins in it. It can only help I suppose. It is called Nutri-cal. I just gave her some tonight for the first time. I don't know if it is working, but I saw my cat try to eat her dry food for the first time in a week. I do know that cat's lose their appetite when they are sick. Your vet should be able to give her fluids be able to handle her if she won't eat on her own. how old is your cat?

Simba is 6 years old. He's been admitted to the vet since last Fri nite (it's Tues now). They've done all kinds of blood work and CBC, etc....everything looks normal. X-ray looked normal. They can't find anything at all that could be causing this. He's been on IV fluids the whole time. Today is the most lethargic I've seen him. They said if he doesn't eat tonite they may think about surgery to go in and see what's going on. They've given him antibiotics to stimulate his appetite and cease the vomiting - nothing. He hasn't eaten anything significant for a week now. I tried everything before, 9 lives, baby food, tuna, you name it. I'm afraid he's getting so weak now that's it's gonna be futile.....I'm at a loss and the expenses are racking up fast - I refuse to give up, but in the meantime my life is pure hell right now - I miss him beyond words. He's my world! Thanks for your response - it's nice to know people care.

I am so sorry to hear about what you and Simba are going through. I just went through a very similar situation. It's so frustrating when a vet can't even tell you what's wrong. When an animal stops eating it is so hard because we just don't know what to do. Do you know if he has been running a fever? Sometimes x rays don't show everything but before the vet does surgery on him, couldn't he consider an ultra-sound first which will show more than an x ray. I hope your baby boy gets better. Please let us know. I will say a prayer for you and him. I really understand just how you are feeling. Take Care.

Thank you for your concern. I have a slight bit of good news today - he didn't vomit at all over nite. Now we're gonna try to get him to eat. If he starts to eat a little, he can come home. I'm still worried, but at least there's a little light at the end of the tunnel. Thankfully I have a lot of good friends who are saying a lot of prayers. I'm hoping that works. All I know is that if he can hold on and make it through this, he's got a lot of kisses and hugs for the rest of his life! I truly appreciate everyone's concern and compassion - it's very comforting.

I totally understand what you are going through. About 7 months ago one of my cats, Pokey. started acting a little strange. She stopped eating, drinking water, and was just laying around not moving. This was totally unusal for her since she is a big talker and in to everything! I took her to the vet and they thought she had leukemia. I was totally out of my head. She is my baby and I could not stand the thought of losing her. After several hours of not knowing what was wrong with her they did several blood test and finally transfusions. It took the blood from 4 other cats to keep her alive. She practically had no blood in her veins. She had some sort of virus that was attacking her blood cells. It worked and now she is healthy and weighs 15lbs! Fortunatly she did not have leukemia but the vet could never definatively tell me what was wrong with her. So DON'T give up! Cats have a strong sense of feeling when they are loved. I hope your cat is better and I wish you both all the best in a speedy recovery.

I'm glad your kitty got better, sounds like a VERY frightening ordeal! Simba had surgery today and he pulled through just fine. They noticed the area between the stomach and intestines looked swollen or inflamed and they basically did some work to loosen the area and widen the hole between the stomach and intestines. They couldn't find anything else at all wrong, everything looked great and he was great thru surgery. We're hoping that is it and that the opening was getting smaller so that food couldn't pass through. This weekend will be the test - to see if he eats and keeps it down! I'm staying hopeful and praying all goes well - if all goes well, he'll be home Monday and I'll be back to normal!
