Author | Topic: Kitty Getting Used to Collar and Leash |
Ambrosia Member ![]() Posts: 10 |
![]() ![]() ![]() I will be taking a three day car trip with my 9 month old kitty in a few weeks and I'm wondering if it's possible to walk a cat on a leash. Others who have posted about car trips with cats have said that they just kept a litter box in the car (which would aleviate the need to walk him), but I still would like to take him outside every once in a while if its possible. Has anyone ever done this?? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I have never personally lead trained a cat but my aunt's cat, who sadly passed on this month, was lead trained later in life when his arthritis became bad and he couldn't go out on his own anymore. She started just putting the lead on his collar and letting him wander around with it attached. He soon got the hang of it and walked quite happily like a dog! Good Luck IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Yes, I have walked my cat on a leash. It was an enjoyable experience for both of us once she was used to it. I did not have any luck whatsoever with the regular collar leash though... I had to use the one that secures around the collar area as well as around the front two legs. It's a kitty harness which should be available at you per store. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for the idea about the kitty harness thing. I was wondering if there was something like that since my cat has been able to wiggle out of the collar each time I've tried the leash. A harness may make it more difficult for him to wiggle his little head out. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi! It is posible but just becareful that your cat doesn't back out of the harness/leash and escape. I have used both a fully elastic harness and a non-elasticated one. I myself prefer the elastic harness as it get underneath their armpits making it more difficult to get loose. Just give your kitty a few week to get used to it and let her walk around in it when your home in case she gets stuck and panics! good luck IP: Logged |
