I have two 2 year old cats that are sisters that have always got on well until a stray kitten came across our path that we were told either needed a home or to be put down.
Now we have out right war between all three cats, I think the kitten just wants to play but as he is an unneutered male (about 12 weeks) I think the others take it as aggression. The two sisters have also started fighting.
Is there anything I can do? I really don't want to have to try and find a new home for any of them.

Getting cats to accept each other can sometimes take anywhere from 2 - ? weeks. I've know a pair of cats that never became friends and one stayed upstairs while the other stayed downstairs. While my parents cats took about 4 weeks before the adult cat would let the kitten anywhere near her. You've got a few options:

- Find the kitten a new home
- Spay/Neuter you new kitten and give it a few weeks
- Just wait and see how things progress

Also assess the size of your house to determine if there is enough room for the cats to roam around without getting too territorial. I had an 800 sq foot apt and that was too small for my two cats. They fought like crazy. I'm in a house now, and they are much friendlier. You may also want to get a second litter box. Three cats to one litterbox maybe too much. Maybe feed them in seperate rooms so they don't become possessive over their food. Try to make their environment as comfortable and less competitive for them as possible. Another thought is to keep the kitten in a room behind a closed door and let you two adults make amends. Then they can check out the kitten in peace without it trying to play and harrass them.

Good luck.

Well all has turned out well after a few spats and lots of hissing they are now getting on like a house on fire. The older two have even started waiting for the lil 'un to get fed so they can all eat at the same time (the kitten still has a bit of an icky tummy so is getting different food)
So for once there is a happy ending
