I have 3 indoor only cats. The oldest, an 8 year old, fixed, long haired male, Bubba, started to howl this morning. He has visited the litter pan several times but nothing happens. He is presently lieing on his side, against the front door with his back legs out and stomach up. About every 10 minutes, he stretches his back legs and howls. I cannot afford to take him to the vet. My husband left last month with no financial help and our 11 year old daughter just came from the doctor with strep throat. PLEASE help me with any ideas. I hate to see him in distress.

Make sure Bubba is not dehydrated or you could try a little olive oil on Bubba's food to use a a laxative.I do hope he is feeling better soon.

Is your cat eating or throwing up after he eats or drinks?

You can get a laxative from the vet for under 10-15$ that will help pass feces. My cat was constipated and it took 2 days with a laxative to have a bowel movement. If your cat hasn't had a bowel movement in the next day or two, I would take him to the vet. Constipation can be very painful esp if he hasn't eaten or drunk in days. Maybe you can work out a payment plan with your vet. A physical examination by hand should tell the vet whether he is constipated or not.

Please keep us posted

YOU MUST TAKE HIM TO THE VETS!
This had happened to me before, I had 3 cats, indoor only.
1 one of them, Max, had this happen to him, he go's to the litter & can't do anything. The reason for Max was because he had kidny back up. He layed on his sides, & howled in pain ever time he moved. At first we thought it was just gas pains. Then not to long ago, I woke up & I didn't even get near him & he meowed an ear shadering howl. We tryed to wait & see how he would do through the next night, when we took him to the vets, they said he had kidy backup & has had it for a while. He stayed there for a cuble days. When we brought him home for 1 night. The vet thinks poison from his wastes backing up & now comming out, got to him brain. He forgot how to breath & coked to DEATH!
TAKE HIM TO THE VETS OR HOSBITLE IMETITLY! If you cat is really that inportent to you, it shouldn't mater about money, if what happened to Max, is happening to your cat, death is a stake!

Thanks for the ideas, but Bubba died in his sleep the next day. He was purring when my daughter and I held him just a few hours before. In regards to the comment about the vet and money: believe me, if I had the money, I would have taken him immediately. I thought that one of the messages was harsh. My husband moved out 4 weeks with all the savings and I literally have NO money and had to apply for food stamps and charity to pay my electric bill. So the judgmental comments were not helpful. To everyone else, thank you for your kindness and taking the time to write.

Thanks again to all of you for your kind thoughts, wishes and prayers. My daughter and I appreciate them all along with the 2 cats, Charlie and Abitail, and the guinea pigs, Snowball and Squeekers.

To Catspaw1960 - I am so very sorry for your loss... I truly understandd your situation as I left my ex and I am woking 2 jobs to support myself and my daughter and theres not a cent left after I pay for rent and food. Please do not listen to anyone that puts you down because of your situation, as the only ones that could be so cruel to you are the ones that have never been in your shoes..........

As for you Goldenkitten3000.... you need to grow a heart. How dare you be so cruel to someone thats hurting so much. You are NOT a nice person at all..You should be ashamed of yourself for your rudeness...and another thing you better go back to school and learn how to spell....how old are you?
