Our 4 year old otherwise healthy male has been itching since Dec. He's seen 3 doctors who are unsure of his
allergy problems, he's has a couple of shots to no avail and they suggest steroids. I wonder if it is a food allergy
and have just switched him off Science Diet to Natural Balance. He gets some wet also but prefers dry food.
It is sad to see him scratch mostly around the head area constantly. Has anyone had this trouble with their cat?
I'd appreciate any input.

Could be nerves, allergies to environment and/or food, what people have, animals can too. How about seeing a specialist in endocrinology seeing 3 vets are baffled. Maybe a hormone/chemical inbalance could also be going on. Try going to vetinfo.com. Have they done a skin scraping, to see for a certain kind of tricky mite? There are many avenues to go and all will be costly. Read the internet too, search the symptoms. I had a cat for yrs that was misdiagnosed only to surely finger the illness as IBD, the havoc it wreaks throughout the various body organs. Meanwhile, try washing kitty in a Microtek shampoo and try giving Program liquid, now known to benefit the skin and fur. You give it at double-dose for ist time, then wait and see for 2-3 weeks, then give double packet for his weight again if needed, then once a month as directed. One of my Persians had severe RW, vaccine did nothing, shots did nothing. Program cured his dry flaky skin, and his fur is so thick now. I was so thrilled that I called Novartis vets! Good luck now.
