when you say privates are you talking her udder or the other? either way, you would use plain warm water and a cloth..and just wash. You may rub around the udder starting from the belly and work your way back first just in case the mare decides your getting a bit familiar so to speak and tries to kick..while your rubbing her around the belly and moving back twards the udder watch her ears and eye see how shes reacting if she pins her ears get after her all horses should be used to this kind of handling when they r young.in case of foaling and such, same with geldings and studs, there would b a time when their sheath will need to be cleaned.
