African cichlids can be so colorful that they look like salt water. I have a 55 gal full of them ranging from fry to 6 inches. beautiful and fun fish. they like hard, salty water and need many caves to hide in. you'd probably need a chunk of limestone to keep the water hard, plus they like lots of water changes and eat special cichlid food.
I think they are great for my area because our tap water is very hard.
