That is a very regional question. The best thing to do is visit the shops in your area. If you look at their tanks and you see brown or amber colored water with overgrown algae or film on the glass, some tanks where the fish are fungused, other tanks where the fish have ick, then you probably want to find another source to purchase fish.

If you have a petco in your are than that is your best bet. They are a national chain that are known for healthy fish. Beware the expensiv prices though. Before shopping there go to the front desk and get a Petco plas card that can hekp you save are there outrageous prices.

The petco in my area is criminally atrocious with their quality of fish. I have bought too many there and every single one has died and once took out my whole tank with it. I despise petco's livestock.

I like to buy my fish from petsmart. They keep great care of their fish and have well trained staff to keep the fish there healthy.
