Hey Everyone.... I have a 55 gallon tank and have read almost every post on this site that pertains to me and my fish. This is what I have: 2 red tailed sharks 2 neon tetras 2 swordtails 2 dalmation mollies 2 golden comet platy 4 little black tetra 2 angels 2 dwarf frogs (any sugg.? theyre new to me} 1 betta ...........I will stop getting new fish at this point. They "appear" to be getting along fine and they all look fairly happy. Awesome hobby!! My questions are..if anyone can give me the heads up on any potential problems with the ones I have, please let me know what to expect. So far so good! Also, I didnt want to spend 20.00 on driftwood...can you boil a hunk or are they specially treated?...my plan is to screw it to a heavy weight for my redtail to take cover. One mildly picking on the other. THANKS EVERYONE... LOVE THE SITE!!! IP: Logged |

I used driftwood from a clean lake and boiled the heck out of it twice. Never had a problem with it. PS: prepare to utter the phrase "Naughty frog! bad bad froggy!" IP: Logged |

well, WHEN I had african dwarf frogs we kept finding dried up little corpses in the morning. I covered the holes, but they'd still escape from my 55 gallon. I let them stay at the fishstore now and visit them there : P on the redtail sharks, I think you're supposed to keep only one of them or they fight. never had them myself, so that's just what I've read. good luck IP: Logged |

I also have underwater frogs, and the most definitely like to escape -especially the bigger they get. I used to have a red tailed shark until it decided it wanted to munch on all my fishies - tetras, and froggies included (i caught it once with a frog leg in it's mouth). The frogs seem to really like worms and playing with each other. My only clue on how to keep them in the tank is to keep the water really clean. Good Luck IP: Logged |

Make sure the tank is covered, the swords and sharks like to take flight. The Neons will probably disappear because of the frogs or the sharks. Don't use screws to attach the driftwood. Use aquarium silicone and let it sit for 24 hours to set before putting it into the aquarium. You shouldn't use any type metal inside the tank. IP: Logged |

Thank-you everyone..Im up for the challenge!!! I am looking into getting a peice of glass fitted for the top of my aquarium...(I broke it when it was a tererium for my box-turtle) The fish and frogs are still very small so I have been fortunate not to lose any. It was suggested that I cover it with saran wrap until I do so...which I will do as soon as I log off. Hope that is okay until then. As for the driftwood, I have boiled it twice already like suggested and I will buy some aquarium silicone tomorrow. Great idea! I was just about to attach it with a screw. I am suprised the aquarium store sold me the two sharks since I told them I was a beginner. I have never seen a site like this before -- an awesome concept. I'm sure I speak for the fish when I say the help is much appreciated ) IP: Logged |
