I have a large Oscar that is over 2 years old. I had him in my classroom last year and he was active and acted fine. I had to move him home last summer so I could take care of him. He went a month without eating because of the move. I had to move him one more time (into a new home) and he has been grumpy ever since. He is mostly very inactive, and only eats a couple of times a week. So it is hard to keep his tank from being cloudy. It is a 40 gallon tank. I don't know if he needs a larger tank or why he is so grumpy. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I want my Oscar (Jaw Junior) to be fun again.

Oscars have really good memories. He is unhappy something has him scared. What does his diet consist of? Most people don't recommend live food, but it will make him/her more active. Mix up his food. Use Pellets as main diet but substitute with goldfish, nightcrawlers beefheart and Crickets. Is he the only fish in the tank? Try finding a friend for him. Large Placo or Catfish. Do you use stress coat? I use it everytime I change water or move fish or anything that may cause stress upon fish. No casualties yet 4yrs.
Oooops except the time my 5yr old decided to help clean the fish decor with a toothbrush and SOAP. Bad no no. Good Luck with the SAD OSCAR anything you need to know ask. I love Oscars. They are very intelligent creatures. Spoil him like a dog. lol

Go for a 60 gallon!!! he needs it if hes full grown. He will be sooo much happier. I heard that oscars dont care if they ever have a tank mate, more food for them!

i think you should put your oscar to the sewer or kill it or fry it. It is very tasty and nutritous.imagine eating your own pet is the most enjoying thing.buy a new one, Oscars here in the Philippines cost about P20 or $.50

Oscars and Pacus don't like changes. They usually snap out of it in a couple of weeks. A larger tank wouldn't hurt. If you remember how the original tank was decorated, try adjusting the decorations to how they were originally, but do it gradually, like over the period of a week to keep him from stressing more.

And shrek, when you learn that the value of a fish is not how much he costs but how much of a pet he becomes and how much you can learn about him you will then be a true hobbyist.
