I just got two new baby oscars in my 35 gallon tank. They are about 1 inch. I cannot get them to eat pellet food. for the first week i fed them they were eating frozen krill and loved it but now they will never come to the surface to get the pellets. what should i do to get them to eat the pellet food as i have heard a variety of foods is good for their diet.

You said baby oscars? how big are they? I just read last night that you should feed your oscars flake food until they are 4 inches, then go to pellets.
I've never had an oscar.. just thought that might help. good luck

What size pellets do you use. sometime baby pellets are to hard for them to see. Try mini pellets or try flakes first to get them off the krill taste. Also you should keep one oscar or a group of 5 or more. Otherwise one of them will become dominent and harrass the other till no end. Your also going to need a bigger tank soon. 45gal min. per Oscar Ive seen 5 in a 125gal they looked happy. GOOD LUCK!!!

An effective way of getting your fish to eat pellets would be to starve it for a few days and then give it the pellets.

Lildab, where did you hear that you should keep one or five? Five is not a good number for oscars because oscars pair up. If there are two females and three males, the male left out will likely be killed. Even numbers is optimum for oscars. 60gallons minimum for one oscar, if you want it to thrive, 120-115 for two.
