I need help. My oscar is not eating....
I have had Happy for about 5-6 days. He is not interested in eating. I have tried putting pellets in the tank, and that didn't work. He has not eaten nor tried to eat the small fish that are in the tank. I have attempted hand feeding him, just on the chance that the previous owner hand fed him. All he did was "roll over" onto his side. I thought Oscars loved food. Any suggestions cause I don't want him to starve to death.

I have never had oscars, but with my bettas they won't eat for a few days if they do not know that it is food. What did the previous owner feed happy? Maybe you should try that, and then if you want him eating something else start mixing it and see if that works

what is the temperature in your tank?
curious because you mentioned below how low you've kept your temperature in the past.

i do not know what the previous owners fed him cause they dropped him off at my favorite pet store. As for my tank temp. I have been slowly increasing it day by day and have it up to....hold on....77 degrees.. Everytime I walk near the tank he goes to the bottom right corner and sits extremely still. but if I am out of the room for a while and walk back in I can catch him swimming around.

my oscar acted exactly as you describe when i first got him. from talking to other people about their oscars, it sounds like it often takes them quite a while to settle into a new tank. mine acted like he was terrified of me whenever i came into the room, and he didnt eat for the first week that i had him.

i wouldnt worry quite yet... but if you want to try some other stuff, i've found that my oscar loves the small shrimp for salads from the grocery store, as well as crickets.. good luck

My Oscar acts the same way when I clean his tank, afterwards he will lay on the bottom sideways barely breathing like he was so tramatized. Then about a half hour later he is back to norm. It took weeks for him to get used to my tank before he would swim with me in the room. I recommend using stress coat. Fish are more acceptable to diseases when stressed out. And thats all it is, is he is stressed out. He will be fine. Make sure you do 25% water change weekly Oscars are sloppy and produce alot of waist.
