I have a 8" Brown Wild Oscar and a 7" Placo. The Oscar keeps trying to eat my Placo I know Placo's are armor plated but there fins are not. My Oscar has tore and ripped off alot of his fins. Should I remove the Placo or will the Oscar eventually figure out he cannot eat it? They have been together for about 3 months now. The placo don't lokk un happy. Just if he moves around to much the Oscar thinks it lunch.

I have a 7" oscar in a 75g with a pleco and i've never had any problems with them. Maybe because you are under feeding the oscar. If that's not the case, then you may have to remove the pleco, due to your oscars aggession level. Another possibility is that the tank you have is too small for the two fish, making the oscar get territorial. What size tank is it?

You could try providing hiding places for your pleco (cave, driftwood etc.), although the Oscar might still harass him when he comes out of hiding.

I have them both in a 45 gal hex I threw in a Male Kenya (African Ciclid) That was beating up all of my buddys fish and he didn't want anymore. It was 1/3 the size of the Oscar about 3 in. And they swim together with no problem. I recently a month back had to take out a Convict that was beat up pretty bad. Now both the Oscar and the Kenya tag team the placo. Needless to say I took him out when I saw the 3" Kenya with the 7" Defenceless Placo's side fin in its mouth shaking it around. Any suggestions on a fish that will help eat bottom food that my sloppy Oscar spits all over? He eats like the cookie monster. He is a slob. LOL
