Okay.. here's the problem. Cat kept shutting off power bar, so my boyfriend needed to prime the filter. He took a glass from the dishrack... I think it had soap on it!! This was Wednesday night. So, that night I lost a plecostamus and a platy and the next morning my angle fish, red tailed shark and neons were gasping, lethargic and losing their colours. So, we moved them to my boyfriends tank (Thursday) and they have recovered completely (Monday). So, now I have to fix my tank and know that its "virtually impossible" to get soap traces out, but was wondering if anybody had any suggestions? My fish are eating Chris' guppies, so I need to get my set back up as soon as possible. Can anyone help?

What size tank is it? I would syphon water out and replace it with new water every 4-5 days, about 25% at a time until the whole water is renewed. vacuume the gravel too. Another suggestion is put carbon in your filter to help absorb some of the bad chemicals.

Everything in the tank will need to be bleached to get the soap out, including the filter. I would recommend starting with completely new gravel, filter media and charcoal if you use it. Use regular chlorine bleach not any of the scented bleaches.
