When you are topping off your aquarium, after water has evaporated, is it necessary to add tap water treatment (to remove chlorine, chloramines, and ammonia)? Or is there already enough in there from the last partial water change? I have to top off my tank every few days and so far, I've been adding a little bit of the water conditioner to the water before i pour it into the tank. Any thoughts or suggestions? THANKS! Depending on the tank size, you could make a lid/top to prevent so much water from evaporating. It's always a good idea to put conditioner in the water just in case. Thankfully the water where I am is just fine. IP: Logged |

You might find it helpful to get a five gallon bucket with a lid. Next time you do your water change fill a five gallon bucket with fresh water and treat it with chlorine/chloramine remover and a PH buffer. Place the lid on it and just store it underneath the tank in the stand. When you need to top off the tank you will already have five gallons of water ready to put in the tank. The temperature of the bucket of water should be close enough to the tank water to add without any problems. The lid on the bucket is just to keep out dust or any possible contaminates. PS. Just treat the bucket with enough chemicals for five gallons of water. [This message has been edited by kc5gvn (edited 10-16-2003).] IP: Logged |
