uh, i am not an expert in teh field, but i am trying to breed them. Ok, to keep your non-sick bettas non-sick u need 2 make sure that u clean their water often enough, and that at least the males have at least a gallon to live and be happy in. People say they can live in just a little water, which isn't true, although it can b true at times, like if they r sick. I had a small bowl that was supposed to be one's death bed, well, it turned out to be a rehabilitation center and he got better, and didn't die until he was put back in teh big bowl. Ok, well, they also like a variety in their diet. Oh! When you change the water, use either room temp. drinking water that u can buy in gallon jugs at the store, or dechlorinate your tap water. Don't put two male bettas together, or a male and female unless you plan on getting lots of little babies. If your fish starts building lots of little bubble nests, good job, pat yourself on teh back, he is happy! the same goes for females, although their bubble nests won't b as large. Ta dah! THat is how u can try to keep your non-sick bettas non-sick

Does bottled store water not need to be dechlorinated? I had no idea...
it seems a lot of city water is put in bottles and sold, do they dechlorinate before bottling?

We just bought the gallon jugs of Drinking water and used that, the fish were fine. Just be sure it is room temp. WE accidiently froze sum fish once, cause it was nov. and the water was in teh garage, we didn't realize it till the fish looked dead. WE just heated up teh water and they were fine. Dechlorinator works really well in tap water, just make sure u use enough drops, and that u remember 2 put it in!

Bubble nests mean they are happy and are a good thing, when it is bcuz it is bcuz they want a mate, i think they are made of a little different texture, but i am not sure since all of mine are for mating purposes, but when they want a mate @ least, they will b a little harder 2 clean off the sides of the bowl and u will have 2 scrub! =) But if u decide 2 get urs a mate, u really want 2 think about it, u could have 100s of little baby fish who need special diets swimming all around!
