I have experienced this problem in the past if you have not already seperated him in to another tank then you should do so a.s.a.p. to prevent any more damage to your pirahna. If the chunks are from the tail and the fins then there is nothing to worry about as they grow back, if the chunks are from his sides then i'm sorry but there is'nt much you can do for him. My best tip would be to take your pirahna to the pet shop as they will deal with him for you. Remember you cant add any more pirahna's to your aquarium as your other ones have already marked theire territory. IP: Logged |

I have 4 piranhas now, and you should get that piranha out that has the bites on it, but just stick it in another tank with some water circulation or an air pump that puts oxygen in the water. The piranha biting the other one could be a result of a small tank, or a result of bad luck in fighting for a pecking order on who is boss of the other. If you are going to get more piranhas make sure the number is even, and you want to make sure the size isnt to big of a difference. I got 2 piranhas that are about 3 inches, and i then got 2 more piranhas like 5 months later that are about 1 inch. when i put the new smaller ones in i changed the arangement of the tank so they all could make new teritorys. It has been a month so far and they are doing fine. But i wouldnt get rid of your piranhas all together because they are a great hobby to be apart of. IP: Logged |

A few questions: What other fish are in the aquarium and what sizes are they? How big is your aquarium? What features (rocks, driftwood, plants etc.) do you have? IP: Logged |

Yes... But how many piranhas in how big a tank and is there a significant size difference between any of them. Is there a large pleco present (or more than one?). A lot of fish (and animals in general) become MUCH more aggressive when crowded. [This message has been edited by katanas_edge (edited 10-16-2003).] IP: Logged |

o.k. what is in the tank! To assume that their is only piranhas is just that an assumtion. Their are much more agressive fish out there. Second as I replied before and was shot down, you need at least 6 p's in a tank, just like a lot of cichlids. You also need a space for each fish. If some of you would research these fish as long as you've spent searching help you would not need any. ------------------ IP: Logged |
