OK, I just cleaned up my thank, everything with boiling water, and filled it up with well water. This time I would like to do everything right. So I know I have to do tests of amonia and no2 right? do I do these everday, till I see the incline and recline in no2? and also I have a bottle of biological breakdpwn of pollutants with baceria, should I use that or its better to have a natural process. Thanks guys. IP: Logged |

A lot of people have used cycling products with varying degrees of success or failure. I personally prefer to do everything as naturally as possible. The fewer chemicals I put into a tank the fewer the possibilities of things I will have to correct or adjust. In regard to testing, it will take approximately 6 weeks for the tank to cycle. I would only test the water about every 4 or 5 days to see how the cycle is progressing. The only exceptions you might make would be in the 3rd week when the ammonia should peak, and in the 5th week when the nitrites peak to make sure your not getting a cycle hang. Remember these levels will go up and down gradually, so if you test one day and the next day they haven't changed a whole lot don't panic. Your looking at small changes. Good luck on your new setup.
